I live in an old house with original pine floors. The wood is softer than contemporary hardwood, which means it’s susceptible to dings. Even though they’ve already taken on a lot of character in the 95 years they’ve been lived on, I do like to try to protect them as much as possible, and the best way to do that is to throw down area rugs in each room.
Unfortunately, rugs can be very expensive. And the cheap ones tend to look…well…cheap. I had heard the name Nourison, but wasn’t too familiar with the brand before I started looking into their rugs. I liked their selection, and their rugs are pretty widely available, so I decided to get one for my living room, one of the highest traffic areas in my home.
Is Nourison a Good Rug Brand? (The Short Answer)
I ordered a Nourison rug to test it out and was very impressed by its quality, especially for the price. The materials feel sturdy, the weave looks more high-end than I expected, and the finish details, like the stitching and serged edges, make it look expensive. I think Nourison is a great brand for easy, affordable rugs that suit a ton of different styles. There’s a lot of versatility across their collections—you’ll find muted neutrals that fit modern minimalism right next to intricate vintage-inspired Persian designs and boho weaves. And because Nourison rugs are sold in so many major stores (both brick-and-mortar and online), they’re easy to find and compare prices on. It’s nice not to have to worry about ordering from an obscure site or dealing with high shipping fees or long shipping times.
What Is Nourison?
Nourison is a rug company that’s been around since 1980. They work with both large commercial clients and everyday consumers, and they offer a wide range of styles and designs.
They also do licensed collections with designers and celebrities (think Nicole Curtis, Calvin Klein, and Kathy Ireland), which helps keep their catalog fresh and trend-aware. On top of that, they’ve expanded into other home categories like accent pillows, throws, and wall-to-wall carpeting. You can’t buy a Nourison rug directly from their site, and they don’t have brick-and-mortar retail locations. You’re pretty much guaranteed to find the rug you’re looking for if you buy it online, but it’s also nice to be able to see the rug in person before you purchase. That way, you get a more accurate feel for the colors and texture of the material (though I will say, mine was pretty spot-on compared to the picture of it on the site). Either way, I like that Nourison has plenty of options for both.

One of my favorite things about Nourison is how wide a variety of rugs they offer. Pretty much every rug comes in a variety of sizes, so whether you’re looking for a small accent rug, a runner for a hallway or the kitchen, or a big area rug for the living room, there’s usually something that will fit.
I also liked that their rugs come in a mix of materials and textures. Some are soft and plush, while others are lighter and easier to clean. Pile height and thickness differ across collections, so you can pick something that feels right underfoot without going overboard on maintenance.
Overall, the selection felt thoughtful without being overwhelming. It’s easy to find a rug that suits your space, your style, and your practical needs.

Pricing
The price of their rugs scales with the material and craftsmanship. You can find beautiful, smaller rugs under $100, large machine-woven area rugs for a few hundred, or invest in a hand-knotted wool heirloom for a few thousand dollars.
The bulk of their designs sit in a comfortable midrange zone. Most 8×10 rugs land between $300–$600, depending on the material. It’s also worth watching for sales, especially at retailers like Amazon, Wayfair, Home Depot, or Macy’s. Nourison rugs go on sale often, and it’s not uncommon to snag one for 30–40% off. I could find pretty much every rug I searched for listed at one of these retailers at a cheaper price point than the MSRP listed on Nourison’s site.
Custom Nourison Rugs
Nourison also offers custom options. You can choose a rug design that you like and have them customize the shape, size, and even details like the binding and rug pad, all of which is a huge bonus if you have an oddly shaped room, are looking for something very specific, or want a runner cut to a specific length.
My Experience Ordering a Nourison Rug
I chose a more neutral-colored and natural-looking rug to match my living room decor. I have a somewhat narrow, railroad-style house with a combination living room and dining area, and I wanted something to help differentiate between the two spaces to make them each feel like their own room.
I chose the Natural Texture (NTX01) rug in ivory beige and got it in a 7’ 10” by 9’ 10” rectangle, which costs $349. I liked the ivory and beige tones of the rug and the combination of cut and looped fibers, which adds a nice, natural-looking texture to the rug.
The rug was made in Turkey and is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. It’s spot-clean only and is machine-made from low-shedding 100% polyester. I appreciated that I could find all this info on Nourison’s site while browsing for my rug. There were no surprises.
The rug came tightly rolled and wrapped in thick plastic. The two ends of the rugs were extra-padded with little covers that looked like mini shower caps. I imagine they help keep the edges of the rug from getting damaged when it’s stored upright and moved around during shipping.
The rug had a faint “new carpet” or “furniture store” type of smell to it when I unrolled it, but it wasn’t unpleasant, and other than that, there was no sort of off-gassing or anything. It’s sturdy but flexible and has some weight to it without being super plush.
It doesn’t have any sort of rubber or nonslip backing, but it doesn’t really need it. The texture of the weave and the weight of the rug keep it from sliding around.
I like how clean the serged edges look, and the thread colors have just enough variation that they look natural without looking sloppy.
Up close, the rug looks like it has a bit of a sheen to it, which I wasn’t super excited about, but it’s actually not really noticeable unless you get really close. I don’t even notice it when I’m sitting on the rug, much less from standing.
It’s incredibly soft—much softer than I would have expected from a lower-pile rug. On nights when my husband and I eat dinner in front of a movie or TV show (come on…we all do it, right?) I’ll sit directly on the rug. Honestly? When I first rolled it out, I was so excited that I was ready to do snow angels on it.
After living with it for a little while, I can honestly say that I’m very happy with it. It hasn’t shown any signs of wear, and it’s very easy to vacuum (both with a regular vacuum and a Roomba—yes, I tried both).
The color looks really nice, but there’s enough variation that it will hide stains or particles pretty well between cleanings. Overall, it feels like it’s been a solid investment piece without the stress of an “investment” price tag.
Are Nourison Rugs Good Quality?
From what I’ve seen and felt firsthand, yes—especially considering the price range. My rug feels durable, the stitching is even, and there are no loose fibers or warping. You can tell it’s machine-made, but it doesn’t have that overly synthetic, textureless feel that some budget rugs do.
Nourison seems to strike a nice middle ground between mass-market and boutique quality. Yes, you can get handwoven heirloom rugs here for some serious $$$, but you can also get something that looks and feels polished, will hold up well in high-traffic areas, and won’t break the bank, which is, I think, where they really shine as a company.
If you’re worried about longevity, I’d say Nourison rugs are a great go-to for everyday wear and tear areas. They’re not delicate, and they don’t feel disposable either.

They have enough variety that I think they’ll appeal to all design tastes, their prices are very good for the quality, and the rugs are very easy to find, since they’re sold at so many major retailers.
