This is another area where Homeaglow and The Maids really diverge. I thought that I’d be able to compare cleaning companies by seeing what they each charged for a bathroom or bedroom, but that’s not quite how it works!

Homeaglow Pricing

Homeaglow requires you to join their $59/month ForeverClean membership to access discounted hourly rates starting at $20 per hour. The membership has a six-month minimum commitment.

And if you’ve seen the ads about Homeaglow offering a $19 introductory cleaning, that still applies! But you do have to join the membership to get that discount. Canceling before completing six months means you’ll be charged the full price of that first cleaning, which typically runs ~$150 to ~$200.

That said, let me break down the math based on what I paid for my home!

I prefer cleaning every two weeks, which means I get my house cleaned twice a month, and it takes them about four hours. Two four-hour cleaning sessions at $20 per hour come to $160 in cleaning fees, plus the $59 membership. That’s ~$219 per month for biweekly cleaning.

The Maids Pricing

The Maids’ prices vary depending on how often you want them to visit and which tier you choose. Before I go further, I have to say, I love that The Maids provides instant online pricing for recurring service just like Homeaglow.

You enter your home details (size, bedrooms, bathrooms, current condition, preferred frequency) and quotes for all three plan tiers appear on the page immediately. Most national cleaning companies make you get on the phone in order to receive a quote.

Now, the pricing for my home with The Maids at the same frequency (every two weeks) looked like this:

• Core (3 rooms cleaned) ~$224 per visit
• Essential (5 rooms cleaned) ~$252 per visit
• Ultimate (full home cleaned) ~$411 per visit

Also, the first cleaning with The Maids is always more expensive, and mine was priced at $504. But even if I set that aside and opt for the Core plan, I’m looking at a bare minimum of $448 per month for biweekly cleaning, which is literally more than double the cost of Homeaglow.

So, the bottom line on pricing is that Homeaglow’s monthly cost runs significantly lower than The Maids for recurring service, especially at the Essential or Ultimate tiers.

At the same time, The Maids follow that rigorous 22-step checklist and you’re getting a team of cleaners, so it comes down to whether you’re more budget-minded or not.

I’ll be honest, this part of the comparison is a little tricky, since Homeaglow has no “standard clean.” That’s going to mean something different for every cleaner you see on the platform. But one thing that is universal with Homeaglow is that rates always start at $20/hr.

What Homeaglow Includes

Since there is no “standard clean” with Homeaglow, let’s dig into how their pricing works. It’s incredibly simple—you pay by the hour. I love this, because at this point, I’m sick of dealing with other companies that have seemingly random prices for add-ons like cleaning the inside of the fridge.

With Homeaglow, you and the cleaner discuss what you want done, they give you a time estimate, and you book from there. If you want to add or change anything while they’re on-site cleaning, you almost always have that option.

But let me be clear that all Homeaglow cleaners are required to provide their own equipment and supplies. If you have something you prefer, you can absolutely ask them to use it, but you aren’t expected to provide anything.

What The Maids Includes

Thanks to The Maids’ 22-Step Cleaning Process, you know exactly what the baseline standard is for every clean. This is handy on occasions when your usual team can’t make it, and you’re working with someone new.  

The 22 steps break down by area. Steps 1 through 9 cover every room in the home, and range from disinfecting high-touch surfaces to vacuuming hard floors and upholstery to emptying trash.

Steps 10 through 18 focus on the kitchen. I was thrilled to see they’ll even load the dishwasher! Most cleaning services won’t touch the dishes.

Steps 19 through 22 cover standard bathroom tasks like disinfecting the counters, sink, faucet, toilet, tub, and shower.

That said, how many rooms get cleaned depends on the tier you selected for your service. Core covers 3 rooms, Essential covers 5, and Ultimate covers the full home.

Cleaner and Team Consistency

While pricing and procedures are both important factors, ultimately, what really matters is whether your house gets cleaned consistently! Here’s what I experienced with both options.

Homeaglow’s Consistency

With Homeaglow, you decide who comes to your home. You browse profiles, read reviews, and choose the person you want. Once you’ve found someone you like, you rebook that same cleaner for every visit, and over time, they learn your space and preferences.

There’s zero chance that a different local cleaner will come, since they’re each an independent operation, and I get a lot of peace of mind from that certainty. It also means there’s built-in consistency since I get the exact same cleaner every time.

However, let me be clear that you need to be comfortable with giving critiques. There’s no “manager” you can talk to—if you’re unhappy or want something done differently, you ask your cleaner directly.

The Maids’ Consistency

The Maids teams of four cleaners are the norm, and your local office will make every effort to send the same team for recurring visits.

I love that each team has a designated team leader whose job is to learn your home and train the rest of the team to meet your expectations. So even when individual team members change due to illness, your team leader is a consistent point of contact.

But there’s no actual guarantee on getting the same team or team leader, and no compensation offered if your regular people are unavailable.

When Something Goes Wrong

Both services have a satisfaction process, and how each works in practice is worth knowing before you commit.

How Homeaglow Handles Issues

Homeaglow’s process is called the Happiness Guarantee and runs in three stages. First, you reach out to your cleaner directly to work out a resolution.

If that doesn’t lead anywhere, you file a formal support request through Homeaglow’s dashboard within 72 hours of the cleaning.

Your cleaner then has seven days to accept or decline. If they decline or the window closes without a response, you escalate to Homeaglow, who reviews the situation and makes a final ruling. That ruling, depending on the circumstances, can be:

• A full refund
• A partial refund
• No refund whatsoever

How The Maids Handles Issues

The Maids offers a 24-hour re-clean guarantee. If you’re unhappy with any area they cleaned, contact your local office within 24 hours, and they’ll come back to re-clean that specific area at no charge.

A few things to know about the fine print:

• The re-clean applies to the disputed area, not the full home.
• Areas with permanent stains or pre-existing damage are excluded.
• Because your local The Maids location is independently owned, what happens beyond that initial re-clean (escalation, a refund, etc.) depends on your specific office.

How to Choose Between Homeaglow vs. The Maids

I wouldn’t call either option inherently “better.” Homeaglow and The Maids each take a unique approach to home cleaning, and, in my opinion, they’re designed for completely different people with different priorities.

That said, I’d tell you to pick Homeaglow if:

• You plan to book recurring cleaning and want the lowest per-clean cost. The ForeverClean membership pays for itself quickly.
• You want to always choose the specific person who enters your home and build a working relationship with them.
• You have specific preferences, surfaces, or priorities that work better with a direct, flexible approach than a set checklist.

On the other hand, I’d suggest you pick The Maids if:

• You want a fully managed team experience. A crew arrives, runs through their process, and leaves. No further communication needed unless you want to change your cleanings.
• You’re comfortable with Mr. Clean products being used on your surfaces, upholstery, and appliances, since The Maids has been partnered with Mr. Clean for years.
• You don’t want a monthly membership commitment. The Maids has no long-term contract and no minimum membership term.

My Final Verdict

In my opinion, the Homeaglow vs. The Maids decision comes down to one core question: do you want to manage the cleaning relationship yourself, or have a company manage it for you?
